Near to our Teacher Training College (TTC) is refugees camp which is running for a couple of years. There are people with different ages and from different African countries. E.G. Congo, Uganda, Rwanda and so on.So you can find different cultures and backgrounds. People try to live their life by themselves - kind of sustainable life. Most of them are farmers and sell their products on the market. This market is open everyday from early morning till sunset/dark. But once in a week - on Tuesday is big a huge market on the same place, but more people are coming to sell their stuff. These photos are taken from big/Tuesday`s market. There you can find pretty much everything. From food to clothes or different working tools. Just to mention 1 Euro is about 500 MK(Malawian Kwacha). For example 1 banana is from 5 to 10 MK, 1 kg of rice(or pasta) is for 300 MK, 1 kg of butter = 500 MK, soya flower (1 kg) = 150 MK, 30 eggs = 1300MK, one bread ( I guess 1 kg) = 200 MK, 1 kg of sugar is for 400 MK. But everything depends on the season, if is enough rain and so on. And the thing is that currency is changing almost everyday, so can happen that one day is sugar for 400 MK but another day is for 350 or 450 MK. Basically for 1 Euro you can buy food stuff for two, three, four days.
Coffee, sweets, hygiene - very expensive. Chocolate, milk - impossible to find.
